La Misión de Corpus Christi de San Antonio de la Sur

<- Back to Texas Series

Established in 1662 by the Spanish settlers when they  fled south after the Pueblo revolt in 1680, which drove them from their mother pueblo, Isleta in New Mexico. The spelling of Ysleta and the addition of “del Sur” was given to the name differentiated the two missions.

I have purposely left this sculpture unpainted to show more clearly how it is constructed. Even many of my notes and markings can be seen.  As with many of my churches, I do not include changes and later room additions to show the purity of the cruciform plan that many of the missions had.
