Mission Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe El Paso/Cd. Juarez

<- Back to Texas Series

Originally established in 1659, the first permanent structure of the mission was dedicated in 1668.  It is a massive structure with a very handsome, separate bell tower building, which possibly served as a baptistery.  I was taken with this design feature, which I have not seen in any of the other Texas missions. I have added entry steps for the front façade and side entry door as I do in many of my church sculptures to elevate the structure and allow your eye to “walk” up to the entrance.
