San Jose de Tumacacori
(also known as San Cayetano)
The present church was erected in 1773 and was originally a “visita” of Padre Kino.
It is a massive structure that has a very unusual half dome façade joined by a squat tower.  It is now a part of the National Park holdings and is being preserved in its ruined state.
My piece is a sculpture of what I think the church must have looked and felt like in the late 1700’s when it was still in use.
